A two-CD compilation of music recorded during the Autumn Uprising festival of Boston new improvised music, held in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, on October 1719, 1997. Featured are selections from eleven of the fourteen groups which participated, including the Hans Poppel Trio, the Charlie Kohlhase Quartet, Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, Fully Celebrated Orchestra, and others. Debris contribution is a composition by Steve Norton entitled Fear Of Laurence. Tautology 001/002 |
Debris is in especially sharp form on Fear of Laurence, a maze-like
composition that elicits some riveting saxophone solos from Steven Norton and Jeff Hudgins.
... A document like this cant include everyone working
in Boston, but it does give listeners a good
indication of the wide range of expression and styles
that exist under the improvised-music banner. And
it makes clear that Bostons new-music scene is very
much, in the words of Rolands poem, alive and
struggling.
Ed Hazell, the Boston Phoenix
